Position Title: Associate Director, Office for Youth and Young Adult Ministry
Hours: Full time (35 hours/week)
Supervised by: Director, Office for Youth and Young Adult Ministry

Salary Range: $64,480 – $70,993
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Director works alongside the Director of the Office for Youth and Young Adult Ministry which provides guidance and support to parish Youth and Young Adult Ministry programs and leadership as they strive to meet the needs of youth (ages 14-17) and young adults (ages 18-39, married and single). The Office for Youth and Young Adult Ministry also provides direct support to youth ministers and young adults in the diocese through its regularly scheduled events. The principal objectives of this position are support and outreach, evangelization, pastoral care and accompaniment, and ongoing pastoral formation.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diocesan Programming: Create, develop, maintain, and grow diocesan and parish youth and young adult ministry programs and other forms of outreach for youth and young adults. Examples include: San Diego Youth Day, Camp Emmaus Leadership Camp, Theology on Tap, Young Adult Mass, Annual Young Adult Retreat, service opportunities, etc.
- Young Adult Synod and V Encuentro Implementation: Assist in the implementation of the goals and proposals set forth in the 2019 Synod on Youth and Young Adults. Provide opportunities for engagement, formation and training for Spanish-speaking youth and leadership that mirror the outcomes described in the V Encuentro process.
- Diocesan Collaboration: Engage with the diocesan pastoral offices, such as liturgy and spirituality, family life and spirituality, evangelization and catechetical ministry, life, peace, and justice, diocesan institute, vocations, and cultural diversity in the programming and events for youth and young adults.
- Parish Collaboration and Guidance: Provide guidance and assistance to parishes on issues related to youth and young adults and young adult ministry via discipleship models of evangelization. Provide opportunities for mentorship and inter-parish collaboration.
- Ministry Training and leadership development: Provide training for parish youth and young adult leaders through regular leadership training programs, in-services, ministry workshops, and one-on-one mentoring.
- Evaluation: Continually evaluate, brainstorm, and strive to improve youth and young adult outreach and ministry on both the diocesan and parish levels.
In addition to the above, the associate director is expected to avail him/herself of appropriate professional and spiritual development opportunities, attend to the administrative aspects of the office and oversee the Spanish-speaking youth and young adult ministry groups, apostolates and movements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, or equivalent required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Three to five years’ experience in youth, young adult, or campus ministry. Parish and diocesan based experience is a plus.
- Proven experience with creating, designing, developing, and implementing ministry programs
- Articulate communicator with advanced presentation skills
- Knowledgeable with social media communications and evangelization tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Publisher and PowerPoint. Website management helpful.
- Bilingual and bi-cultural preferred (Spanish)

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This position will involve frequent evening and weekend engagements. Office hours will be maintained with some flexibility.

Title: Associate Director, Family Life & Spirituality

Position Description
The Associate Director of Family Spirituality collaborates with parishes and provides leadership in the development of parish programs in support of family spiritual life, especially our Spanish-speaking communities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Coordinate with parish leadership to identify strategies to help create a parish cultures of faith, which welcomes and fosters family participation in prayer and liturgy.
- Identify ways that parishes can minister to families who are alone, isolated or on the margins of our parish communities.
- Share and develop resources for parishes to minister to all families
- Support and accompany existing diocesan and parochial family life ministries and build relationships with ministry leaders.
- Identify experiences and resources parishes can use to educate and evangelize children and their families in the Faith.
- Develop and distribute to parishes, a handbook of resources for family prayer and spirituality for the home
- Participate in, and/or lead in diocesan task forces (Comité Hispano for example)
- Collaborate with other OFLS staff in order to integrate, where appropriate, the tools or programs provided to parishes.
- Maximize creative use of all channels of communication to deliver information, including social media.
- Collaborate with mental health ministry network leadership; be available to support Spanish parish mental health ministry teams.
- Support and participate in diocesan marriage prep retreats, especially through accompaniment of Spanish Pre-Cana team.
- All other duties assigned by the director.

Physical Requirements:
To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:
- Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
- Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
- Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
- Deal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending
- Reach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class
- Assist in moving children’s desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms. Carrying can be up to 200 feet and varies.

- Relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver or relevant experience as determined by the department.
Experience may be substituted for education. A person not meeting these requirements may be considered as an Apprentice CCW. This status will be explained by the person conducting the job interview.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general company policies and House Manuals. Ability to write clearly. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from youth, other Child Care Workers and staff. Ability to speak Spanish is a benefit.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
A valid driver’s license from the state of employment.
First Aid certified or ability to become certified within 2 months of being employed. Medication administration certified.
