Trees improve our lives with beauty, shade and fruits — and they cool the planet by taking in carbon as they grow. Certain neighborhoods have many trees, and enjoy these benefits, while others endure the hot, harsh effects of living in a “concrete jungle.”
San Diego and Imperial Counties need one million more trees over the next decades, especially in low-income areas.
The San Diego Diocese’s Creation Care team will provide the trees, identify the ideal location for them, and provide the training to prepare the soil, plant, irrigate and care for the trees.
Trees can be planted at individual homes, on school or parish grounds, or as part of a regional effort, such as wildfire recovery, restoration ecology or urban renewal.
We invite everyone’s participation, but especially that of youth and young adults, and of schools and parishes in underserved areas.
Please email us if you’re interested participating in this campaign. You may participate by planting a tree, by donating your labor to help plant trees, or by providing funds to pay for them.
