The diocese’s annual Filipino holiday tradition of Simbang Gabi will begin with a special vigil Mass on Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Michael Church in San Diego. Everyone is welcome!
Simbang Gabi (Filipino for “Night Masses”) is a novena of Masses to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary as she awaits the birth of the Son.
On Dec. 14, the evening will begin with a procession of “parols,” colorful star-shaped lanterns that remind the faithful that Jesus is the “Light of the World.” Afterward, there will be a rosary followed by Mass by candlelight, to be celebrated by Cardinal McElroy.
Beginning Dec. 15, Simbang Gabi services will be held in parishes across the diocese at varying times. The schedule will be posted here soon.
