Civil Affairs

The Office for Civil Affairs includes the general counsel and administrative support staff. The office serves and represents the Bishop and the Diocese of San Diego, including all diocesan offices, ministries, cemeteries, and select other affiliated diocesan corporate entities in both external and internal matters. The Office for Civil Affairs provides legal services to parishes and schools under a contract with the Parish Services Corporation.

The office provides advice and assistance in such areas as contracts, corporate governance, real property, construction, employment, tax exemption, trusts and estates, legal compliance, and risk-related issues.

The office also oversees and coordinates legal representation by outside counsel.
