Los Peñasquitos Lagoon features marshes, mudflats, and essential habitat for sensitive/endangered species. It is plagued, however, by silt and soil from urban development choking the channels, urban freshwater runoff, and invasive plant species. As a result, the EPA lists the the lagoon as an impaired waterway.
All are welcome to this service learning event! We’ll begin with a presentation on biodiversity with Brother James Lockman, OFM, a Franciscan Friar and expert environmental restorationist. We will then enjoy a short out-and-back walk/hike while looking for trash to pick-up along the way.
Feel free to bring a brown bag lunch to eat at the conclusion of our walk over over fellowship!
