Synod: Journeying together toward renewal
Timeline
The Church listened through small-group sessions at parishes and schools and at sites serving the marginalized, and through a widely distributed electronic survey.
Commissions analyze the data from the listening phase and develop proposals to address the concerns raised, strengthening the voice of the faithful at the diocese.
Using the synodal process, parishes identify short-term goals that they can begin to implement to revitalize their communities over the course of the year.
The San Diego Diocese listened to as many voices as possible in 2022 and plans to address their top concerns at the parish and diocesan levels starting in early 2023.
From November 2022 to March 2023, representatives of the episcopal conferences and dioceses from across the world will come together in continental groupings.
The Synod of Bishops will meet in October 2023 and October 2024 in Rome to draft proposals for Pope Francis based on the concerns expressed by Catholics worldwide.
