Bishop Michael Pham invites the entire community to pray for our refugee and migrant brothers and sisters at a special Mass on World Refugee Day, June 20, an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees worldwide. The day recognizes the strength and courage of individuals and families forced to flee their home countries due to conflict or persecution.
The Catholic Church in the United States is an immigrant Church with a long history of embracing diverse newcomers and providing assistance and pastoral care to refugees, immigrants and people on the move. Our Church has responded to Christ’s call for us to “welcome the stranger among us,” for in this encounter with the immigrant and the refugee in our midst, we encounter Christ.
At our special Mass, Bishop Pham will be joined by Auxiliary Bishops Ramón Bejarano and Felipe Pulido, clergy, religious women and leaders from other faiths. Priests and deacons please be prepared to concelebrate.
