Nuestra vida es misión
El escudo del obispo Pulido está dividido en cuatro cuarteles con líneas horizontales onduladas de arriba abajo. Las líneas azules y blancas representan a la Santísima Virgen María. También sugieren el agua, que alude a Jesús lavando los pies de sus discípulos y a las aguas del bautismo. Las líneas rojas y doradas representan el Espíritu Santo y el fuego. Los colores también hacen referencia a la Sangre que (junto con el agua) brotó del costado de Jesús en su crucifixión, así como al pan (oro) y al vino (rojo) transformados en la Eucaristía. En el centro hay un medallón con una representación simbólica del "mandatum" (lavatorio de los pies), que, en su opinión, ejemplifica el servicio a toda la humanidad. El borde exterior del medallón es una línea compuesta de pequeñas jorobas, tomada del escudo de armas de la diócesis de Yakima, donde el obispo Pulido fue sacerdote antes de ser nombrado obispo.
El escudo del obispo Pham combina el de la diócesis de San Diego, a la izquierda, y el suyo, a la derecha. En el suyo, un barco rojo sobre un océano azul se asienta sobre líneas diagonales que sugieren la red de un pescador. Esto simboliza su ministerio como "pescador de hombres", así como el hecho de que su propio padre había sido pescador. La barca es también un símbolo de la Iglesia, a la que se alude como la "barca de Pedro". En el centro de la vela hay una colmena roja (símbolo del santo patrón bautismal del obispo, San Juan Crisóstomo, conocido como predicador de "lengua de miel"). La colmena está rodeada por dos ramas de palma verdes (antiguo símbolo del martirio; los antepasados del obispo fueron de los primeros mártires de Vietnam). Las ocho lenguas de fuego rojas que rodean el barco son un símbolo del Espíritu Santo y una representación de la diversidad de las comunidades étnicas.
El escudo combina símbolos que reflejan la vida espiritual y el ministerio sacerdotal del obispo Bejarano. La parte principal del escudo muestra cuatro líneas verticales onduladas sobre fondo dorado. Representan aguas que fluyen. Esto alude a su lema elegido y también simboliza las gracias que proceden de la vida divina para saciar nuestra sed de Dios. El tercio superior del escudo es rojo porque está tomado del escudo de armas de la Orden de la Merced, a la que pertenecía el santo patrón del obispo, Raimundo Nonato. El símbolo central se asemeja a una custodia porque San Raimundo es representado a menudo sosteniéndola. La Eucaristía es la inspiración de la vocación del obispo Bejarano. Fue a través de la Eucaristía que recibió su llamada al sacerdocio a la edad de siete años y que mantiene su fe y su ministerio. Representa la llamada a ofrecerse como sacrificio vivo. La custodia está flanqueada a ambos lados por una imagen del Sagrado Corazón, aludiendo a la misericordia de Dios y haciéndose eco de la idea de una ofrenda sacrificial de uno mismo unida al sacrificio de Cristo, y de una rosa para la Virgen. Es una alusión a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, patrona de las Américas, y pone de relieve la herencia hispana del obispo.
