The diocese’s annual Juneteenth Mass brings together the community to mark the official end of slavery and to honor the resilience and faith of enslaved people.
Auxiliary Bishop Ramón Bejarano will celebrate the Mass, which is organized by the diocese’s Commission for African American Catholics.
Everyone is invited to the Mass, which will feature the parish’s Gospel choir.
The Mass marks the anniversary of June 19, 1865, the day enslaved people in Texas learned that they were free, marking the end of slavery in the United States.
