Rebuilding Lives
The Diocese of San Diego extends accompaniment of men after they are released from incarceration. Clergy and staff from the diocese accompany these men during their stay at Kairos House, a transitional housing facility for those recently released from prison or jail.
The house, located in the Hillcrest neighborhood, can serve a maximum of 32 men. It is operated by Restoring Citizens, a San Diego-based provider of reentry services.
Men transitioning to life outside the prison walls not only find a place to live at Kairos House, but also assistance in acquiring such essential items as ID cards and Social Security cards and with finding employment.
The house has a faith dimension that other reentry programs lack. The facility has a chapel, and Jesuit Father Michael Ravenkamp serves as its chaplain. The residents are not required to participate in any religious activities, but opportunities are available should they be interested in doing so, including attending Mass on site.
Changing Lives Transforming Hearts Impacting the World
KAIROS is a non-denominational ministry that encourages Christians from various backgrounds to be volunteers in this Christ-filled ministry.
KAIROS programs offer to prison residents, their families, and those who work with them, the opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness through faith in Jesus Christ, and to grow in their faith and servanthood through Christian community.
