Leadership Development
Our office accompanies Pastoral Juvenil young adult leaders and adult advisors through various stages in their ministry:
- Through the Diocesan Certificate in Ministry with Pastoral Juvenil, we help leaders develop a holistic vision, mission and pastoral plan for Hispanic-Latino young people in the four dimensions of formation: spiritual, pastoral, human and intellectual. By the end, these leaders are able to comprehend their faith experience and leadership role as a vocation to missionary discipleship in their parish, their local community and within the broader community of the Church in the United States. Learn more about this certificate by contacting Brilema Perez (bperez@sdcatholic.org). Registrations for the new cohort open in November 2024.
- Through our bimonthly Pastoral Juvenil Commission meetings, we provide a space for leaders to pray together, to receive leadership training, and to share ministry updates. These meetings not only raise awareness of all the Pastoral Juvenil activities happening at the parishes, but also allow members to grow in community with other young adult leaders in the Diocese of San Diego.
- We directly support the different groups and apostolic movements through in-person meetings where we listen to their needs, support local and regional projects, and advise in pastoral and administrative matters.
- We invite our diocesan Pastoral Juvenil leaders to participate in Curso de Verano, a regional formation opportunity imparted every summer by RECOSS (Region Eleven Commission on the Spanish-Speaking). This allows local leaders to engage in regional and national dialogues about the state of Hispanic-Latino young adult ministry, to meet and collaborate with leaders across California and to understand their local Pastoral Juvenil community within a regional structure of support.
